I know my John Moore was married in the First Protestant/Presbyterian
Church of Newtownards twice by
Rev. James McCullough. Jane Montgomery in 1811. She may have been from
Armagh, and Sophia Angus from Down in 1817. John and Jane had two
children, Alexander 1812 and James 1815. John attended this Church and
also was educated at the East Street school in N'ards c 1795-1805.
Another research item for the same area that I need information on is
Andrew Moore. He bought
the "Cock Inn" where John Moore and many others first attended their
Masonic Lodge meetings, 1766 - 1812. It was purchased in 1838 and is
described as a converted house that Andrew then made into a
Hardware/Grocery-Tea shop on High Street on the south side of Conway
Square. I have not been able to move forward with the Church records so
far so perhaps more focus on Andrew Moore and any possible family
connections that he may have could provide some favorable information.
This name also runs in my line and this fellow will provide a different
approach due to the records used to attach him to this property. I can
provide more information on other families from this time and from
County Down. My limited information is on families up until 1818 when
this group came to Canada. Any offerings of assistance are gladly
accepted.
