Incidentally, the link I sent,
http://www.tamu.edu/ccbn/dewitt/mckstmerjersey.htm also has much to say
about the two dozen or so families who left New Jersey Colony after Thomas
Smith and John Parke burned their confiscated farms and fled to Virginia
with a price on their heads, joined by several neighbors who also
couldn't/wouldn't buy their land a second time.
In the linked site you'll see that many New Jersey emigrants ended up in
the piedmont of North Carolina Colony, near the Yadkin River.
Cheers, and don't hesitate to 'Google' for more.
