MATAWAN AREA MEMORIES; my
aunt had her parakeet named PARKER after the singer on radio-
madison township went to high school in matawan-so did laurence harbor and
cheesequake
you were more afraid of your parents than the cops
you knew how to dress for church, funerals, school and dinner
men removed their hats
whimzie pushed his lawn mower up and down main st=prob other streets too
but i was too little to know where he went or lived =
there was a pottery on washington street by the gulley
scouts cabin on lake lefferts
lena's diner on main st
no one locked their doors or cars
sloat was police chief and got shot!
diving off little street bridge
walking acrosss the trestle
collecting tadpoles up next to matawan lumber
mr lavoie(one with tennis court) had baby tigers,
lions etc that he brought to usa for zoos-he let me walk them in baby
carriage when diners were called
greasy spoons? when my family farm
was apple and peach trees instead of car dealers, bowling alley and
strathmore and went from so atlantic to lloyd road
selling fruit and vegetable at engebretsons in summer
sleeping out on side porch
how we thought cba was gods acre for us to find guys!
holmdel high school was parking place before school got built
mary carter hill= named after paint company=
white gate inn
bunkhouse
mink ranches on valley drive
alleys behind schenck avenue
the old churches on main street
maloneys meat market
bells
tassinis
porters tavern
ryan brothers= triple scoop on fri 13th ada was ice cream lady
lennys store, american store before that, bess and tom welsteads
thru the years antique shop= and toms indian head garage -
ronsons
ozzie sickles appliances
mr kaminsky owned the drug store
kappy and his lovely wife=
cuban cigars
ice skating on lake lefferts- crack the whip= cant
skate under the bridge! wow- too many more - i have to do some
housework now!!!!!lol
