Maryann Lindsly wrote asking for a Marriage Look-up for Ira LINDSLEY maried
to Rachel Connet in 1812. My resources at home are limited but I did find in
some photo-copied pages from the book entitled, History of the First
Presbyterian Church, Morristown, N.J., Part II, The Combined Registers, from
1712 to 1885, the following notice on page 137: Ira Lindsley [s. Joseph] and
his wife Rachel, had:-Henry Connet; B. 2 July 1814. If I have read the
symbols correctly, this means that Ira is a son of Joseph and his son, Henry
Connet Lindsley was baptised on 2 July 1814.
Next I decided to look-up Joseph Lindsley and here is what I found on page
139:
Joseph Lindsley [s. Daniel], and his (1st) w. Anne, had:-
Bathiah; B. 1 May 1763.
Grace; B. 1 May 1763.

Jemima; b. 15 Nov 1769: B. 17 Dec 1769.
Anna; b. 23 Nov 1771: B. 22 Dec 1771 [?d. 12 May 1774, aet. 3.]
Joseph Lindsley [s. Daniel], and his (2d) w. Mary Gardiner, had:-
Phebe; b. 11 Feb 1782 B. 7 July 1782.
Joseph [M.]; b. 13 Aug 1783; B. 26 Oct 1783; C. 23 Aug 1832; dis. 26
Jan. 1841, to 2d Ch.; d. 26 Sept. 1856, aet. 73. He m. Phebe [Dickerson, dg.
Joseph, q.v.], who C. 15 Aug 1822; dis. with h.
Ira; b. 21 April 1785; B. 5 June 1785; C. 18 Aug 1808; dis. Sept.
1815; m. Rachel.
Matthew Gelsion; b. 27 Jan 1787; B. 6 May 1787; C. 22 Jun 1808; dis.
26 Jan. 1841, to 2d Ch.: d. 23 July 1855, aet. 68; m. 7 Feb 1810 Abigail
Beers, [dg. Joseph.]
Mary; b. 20 Feb 1789; B. 4 May 1789.
Joseph Lindsley [?s. Benj.]; m. (1st) 8 May 1783, Sarah Lindsley [?dg. (v)
John], who d. 2 Sept 1784, aet. 22; he m. (2d) 26 March 1786, Phebe Rodgers
[?dg. John.]
Rachel; b. 24 Nov, 1790; B. 7 Feb 1791
Joseph Lindsley [s. Joseph], and his w. Phebe Dickerson, had:-
Ira Justine; b. 28 Feb 1828; B. 5 Sept. 1828
Mary; d. 1 Jan 1852, aet. 20.
Martha; d. 22 May 1853, aet. 20.
Harriet Pierson; b. 7 May 1838; B. 31 Aug. 1838.
It is possible that either the Benjamin Lindley or the Benjamin Lindsley
listed on page 135 is the father of one of the Josephs, and/or one of two
Daniel Lindsleys listed on page 136 is the father of one of the Josephs
listed.
Maryann, if you don't already have this information, I recommend that you get
a copy of these Lindsley pages of this book and do some concentrated study on
these pages. I think they would be very helpful in your research. Be sure
to request or make a copy of the title page and the "Abbreviations and Signs"
that appear at the top of page 5; this explains all the symbols and
expressions used in the Combined Registers. Write to Claire E. Kissil, Local
History and Genealogy, The Joint Free Public Library of Morristown and Morris
Township, One Miller Road, Morristown, NJ 07960. You could telephone and
ask them their charges, but I believe their minimum fee for photocopies and
postage is $3.00 and I think it is 50 cents a page. To copy all the 13
Lindsley pages plus the title page and page 5 would be about $7.00. I would
recommend a donation, too and send them a check for $10.00, that way you are
sure to cover your costs. The other option is perhaps your local Family
History Center has the book on fiche, or your local library might be able to
request an inter-library loan. I believe the "Joint Library" has a fiche
copy of the book.
Happy hunting! Judy Martin
