January 4th ~ John REEVE [REEVES] deceased in 87th year of age, born 3rd
month 5th day 1729. He and wife, Jane, married 5th month 24th day 1793.

January 6th ~ Heard that William ELDRIDGE, deceased 1st inst.

January 8th ~ Cousin Isaac COOPER brought and lent me un-asked, his
great-grandfather's, John COOPER's handsome cane with his name and date there
on viz: "John COOPER 1724" and insisted on my taking it. Hath been in
possession of his son David (who was my esteemed uncle and guardian) grandson
Amos and great-grandson ye said Isaac, son of said Amos COOPER.

January 11th ~ Rebecca HUBBS at meeting.

February 4th ~ Judah HERITAGE deceased.

February 9th ~ Delaware River froze over last night in both channels.

February 15th ~ Heard that Henry SPARKS, formerly of Woodbury, late of Salem,
deceased sometime this winter.

March 5th ~ David CHEW interred yesterday.

March 15th ~ A First day school established.

March 22nd ~ Two Duelists and two Seconds from Philadelphia fined $25 each by
Court. Mentions duel of LIVINGSTON and __________, a son of Doctor RUSH, now
insane in the Penna Hospital.

April 20th ~ Cousin Sarah MICKLE deceased.

May 3rd ~ Paper taken off ceiling in my writing room and ceiling white washed
instead of re-papering.

May 12th ~ David BROWN deceased.

May 23rd ~ Thomas KNIGHT and Mary, daughter of Josiah STOKES.

May 26th ~ Thomas BALLINGER, ye father of Isaac BALLINGER, deceased.

May 31st ~ Attended a meeting at ye Academy for the purpose of forming a
Bible Society for Gloucester County and became a member thereof on
subscribing 50 cents.

June 4th ~ Aaron WOOD, son of John and Anne WOOD, deceased.

June 7th ~ Beulah, daughter of Thomas CLARK, deceased.

June 10th ~ Theophilus GATES, Itinerant preacher, talked at Deptford Free
School and also at Court House in evening.

June 15th ~ Richard THORN deceased at Camden 4th month, 27th day last.

July 1st ~ Mary WILSON, widow of Thomas WILSON, deceased, aged about 70
years; daughter of Moses WARD, Sr. or eldest of ye Moses WARD. [Jr.~?]

July 1st ~ Adilicia WHITECAR, deceased 3rd month last, widow of Benjamin
WHITECAR, and think daughter of Thomas WILKINS.

August 2nd ~ Copied a letter of Jos. REEVE of Mannington, Salem County, New
Jersey, on subject of First day Schools at request of Jos. CLEMENT.

August 21st ~ At meeting of Managers for Bible Society for this County.

August 25th ~ Went to Females School, 51 girls of whom about one dozen
writers. Also, at First day Boys School 40 attended, 47 absent.

September 7th ~ Became Life member of Bible Society by paing to Jos. V.
CLARK, Treasurer, $9.50 in addition to 50 cents paid him 5-31 last.

September 11th ~ William WILSON, bookbinder and stationer of Philadelphia,
deceased five month last.

October 1st ~ Sold Pied cow, last living creature owned by me.

October 1st ~ Archibald MOFFETT says he will be 86 years old 20th next month.

October 7th ~ At meeting Bible Society and Fire Company.

October 7th ~ Pious old black Flora, wife of Primus STILL, deceased today.

October 9th ~ Went to Rappapa to see David HENDRICKSON, Sr.

October 15th ~ Lydia REEVE [REEVES] left Woodbury in Stage ye morning to
reside in Philadelphia together with her sister Elizabeth.

November 21st ~ Cousins Joseph MICKLE and Anne BLACKWOOD married today. She
removed from Woodbury to Newton on 27th to live in her new husband's
residence.

December 1st ~ Uncle Timothy MATLACK [MATLOCK] from Philadelphia on foot to
visit cousin Paul COOPER. Says he don't remember when he was born, but I
suppose upward of 80 years ago.

December 3rd ~ At Deborah DAVENPORT's to see my old friend, Keziah HOWELL,
widow of Richard HOWELL late Governor of New Jersey.

December 12th ~ Miles SNOWDEN and cousin Beulah COOPER married.

December 21st ~ Thomas MANN and Rhoda JOHNSON, colored folks, married.

December 27th ~ Sarah GILL, widow of John GILL, Sr., deceased in ye 86th year
of her age.

December 29th ~ Elizabeth PAUL, wife of Jas. PAUL, and daughter of Daniel
SMITH, deceased last night. This Daniel SMITH built and owned ye windmill
near mouth of Great Timber Creek.
