January 3rd ~ Ephraim DANIEL's wife deceased.

January 23rd ~ Doctor Thomas HENDRY's son, Thomas HENDRY, Jr., deceased in
Philadelphia today.

February 10th ~ Hester COLLINS, a ministering Friend, sister of Mary ALLEN
and widow of John COLLINS, with Anne EDWARDS in crossing ye Delaware River in
a wagon on ye ice at Dunk's Ferry, broke through and were lost.

February 20th ~ Joseph M. HINCHMAN married to third wife, Amy, daughter of
Charles COLLINS on 10th inst.

March 6th ~ Appointed meeting for Elizabeth, wife of Isaiah Kirk and sister
of Sarah SAUNDERS [SANDERS].

March 9th ~ Monthly Meeting. These two days rainy and freezing, boughs
breaking down from weight of ice; boughs as thick as my thigh split and
fallen down to ye ground. From what I can learn, the oldest persons do not
remember such a time.

March 16th ~ Clement H. KAY (son of Isaac KAY) and Edith CLARK, daughter of
Thomas CLARK, married.

March 19th ~ Invitation to funeral of Joseph REEVE [REEVES] of Mannington.

April 5th ~ Went to our jail ye evening to see cousin Joseph WHITEALL's two
sons, Joseph and Benjamin, put in jail for non payment of a military fine of
$6.50 each.

April 6th ~ Mildred RADCLIFF, a woman Friend from Short Run Monthly Meeting
in Ohio, at monthly meeting today.

April 23rd ~ Charles OSBORN from Indiana on religious visit.

April 28th ~ George TATUM [TATEM] and Lydia LAURIS married.

May 3rd ~ William TATUM, Sr., deceased 1st inst. Joined ye procession as it
passed through Woodbury and walked with it to Presbyterian Burial Ground. An
old acquaintance from lads.

June 20th ~ Visited by Lydia McCARTY, teacher in Females' Upper School.

June 25th ~ George DILLWYN deceased 23rd inst. in 83rd year, at Burlington.

June 27th ~ Reading Job SCOTT's Journal.

June 29th ~ Abel KNIGHT and Harriet WILKINS married.

July 5th ~ Isaac CRIM deceased today.

July 8th ~ Received from esteemed Friend, Joseph or Joshua CLARK of
Philadelphia by Woodbury state, 77 tracts of 4 kinds in religious subjects
intended for First Day School Society, the legacy $500 bequeathed to said
Society by his said brother, James CLARK, deceased.

July 18th ~ Abraham INSKEEP deceased last night in 69th year. [NOTE: His
real estate was later sold, in 1822, in pursuance of his will and testament.]

July 30th ~ Edith HICKMAN, mother of Hannah, died 22nd inst.

August 1st ~ Jane REEVES [REEVE], widow of John, deceased today.

August 3rd ~ This morning attended funeral of my most intimate old
acquaintance, friend and neighbor, Jane REEVES. May I be prepared to follow.

August 6th ~ Lydia ELLIOTT, late RICHARDS, lent me the Journal of Daniel
COKER, a descendant of Africa, from ye time of leaving New York in the sloop
"Elizabeth" Captain SEBOR, on a voyage for Sherbra, in Africa, in company
with three agents and about 90 persons of color. Journal commenced 2nd month
4th day 1820 and continued to 3rd month 30th day following. Put to sea from
New York 2nd month 6th day and arrived at Sierra Leone 3rd month 9th day.

August 13th ~ Took shower bath ye morning.

August 17th ~ Richard JORDAN at meeting. Amongst the subjects signified a
great storm was coming on Friends as a Society. Doctor ATLES joined Richard
JORDAN in his prospect of said storm. Yellow fever in Philadelphia past two
or three weeks, is now said to be rapidly spreading there, and many of its
inhabitants removed to ye country.

August 20th ~ Received note from cousin Sarah GLOVER viz "John GLOVER and
Mary was married 18th day of ye 2nd month in year of our Lord 1751." Said
John and Mary were parents of Sarah GLOVER's husband, Joseph GLOVER.

August 20th ~ Joseph M. HINCHMAN was born 1st month 21st day 1785.

August 29th ~ Went over Clement's Bridge about 3:30 p.m. to Abel CLEMENT's
place. Home before sunset.

September 1st ~ Hannah ALLEN, widow of Jededia ALLEN of Mannington deceased
yesterday, aged 76 year and 11 months.

September 10th ~ Heard James LEE, late of New Jersey, deceased 18th of last
month at New Orleans.

September 11th ~ Benjamin RULON says he was born 1st month 14th day of 1761.

September 11th ~ Rusa and Catherine WEST removed from Woodbury to Mt. Holly,
their intended place of residence in future. Sorry and sad I feel for ye
breaking up of the family from ye house having frequented it up of 41 years
last past. Rusa WEST informed me he is upward of 80 years.

September 21st ~ William TATUM's wife, late Maria WEST, deceased ye morning
in child bed.

September 23rd ~ Funeral of Benjamin HOWELL's son, Alfred, aged about 6
years, from LADD's Cove.

September 26th ~ John M. HOPKINS sets sail for his home in Charlestown, South
Carolina tomorrow.

October 11th ~ Abel CLEMENT, deceased 9th inst.

October 13th ~ Lydia ELLIOTT, wife of Daniel ELLIOTT, of Philadelphia, and
youngest daughter of Samuel RICHARDS, deceased. Lydia had been at James
SAUNDERS [SANDERS] for 11 weeks past and called this p.m. to bid farewell, as
expecting to return to Philadelphia tomorrow morning.

October 19th ~ Rode to Black Thomas MANN's house who deceased ye 20th
supposed to be in his 68th year, in Thomas SAUNDERS [SANDERS] Dearborn Wagon.


Samuel MICKLE pays a glowing tribute to the Black man who was a former slave
to his father-in-law, Robert Friend PRICE who deceased 8-1, 1782, and set
free by his executors. Thomas MANN was a Methodist and meetings were held in
his house. He was the last one of the family.

November 1st ~ Left Thomas MANN's Will at Surrogate's Office [James GLOVER]
with his widow, Rhoda.

November 12th ~ Snowed last night.

November 14th ~ Jacob DAVIS of Woodstown, aged 87 years, interred today.

November 22nd ~ Had a board fixed for Jane REEVES' grave, also mended my
beloved wife's grave board.

November 26th ~ Samuel BETTLE of Philadelphia, at our meeting today.

December 5th ~ My lumber store, also Thomas SAUNDERS' Store broken open last
night. $300.00 worth of dry goods and $10.00 or $12.00 cash stolen from
Thomas SAUNDERS [SANDERS].

December 14th ~ Cousin William HOPKINS died suddenly last first day morning
10th inst.

December 17th ~ Cousin Mickle WHITALL bid me farewell. Expects to sail from
Philadelphia for Canton in CHINA.

December 22nd ~ Cousin Thomas SAUNDERS [SANDERS] brought home from
Philadelphia about two or three of his stolen goods; ye robber Joseph WILSON,
in jail there.

December 25th ~ Heard by Constantine WILKENS that Doctor Benjamin VanLEER
deceased about 2 months ago.

December 26th ~ Read after candlelight ye manuscript papers respecting ye
wars about Woodbury Dam in 1754.

December 29th ~ James B. CALDWELL, our next door neighbor, removed to
Philadelphia with his family yesterday. Sold his elegant new house and lot
in Camden to John WESSEL at Camden, at a great loss. Said to have cost
$7,500.00 and sold at $600.00 [?] Hath 12 months allowed him to redeem it.
Rented to Thomas CHAPMAN, Attorney at Law, at $210.00. [My Note: Did James
B. CALDWELL lose him home to non-payment of taxes, perhaps?]

December 30th ~ Joseph LOWNES, silversmith in Philadelphia lately, deceased.

December 31st ~ Called to see Joseph REEVES in his 80th year.
