January 4th 1827 ~ Edward HICKS is expected to attend our meeting on 7th.

January 15th 1827 ~ Mary HUDSON here ye a.m. to borrow $2.50 to pay her
husband's military fine. Not granted.

January 25th 1827 ~ Quit taking India extra pills, disordered me and no
relief from rheumatism.

January 30th 1827 ~ Micajah COLLINS, deceased.

February 8th 1827 ~ Dr. Samuel HOWELL intends to remove to Princeton, New
Jersey next month.

February 12th 1827 ~ This p.m. walked to ye tenement late of Thomas MANN,
deceased, to see whether it was occupied and by whom. Found therein Black
Rachel, wife of William MIFFLIN [MISSLIN ~?], [ye latter a runaway slave and
now again absconded for fear of being taken up]; and two or three black
children; also Adam CHESTER, a black preacher, ye husband of black Hannah,
formerly PETERSON and lately married. On my way there, called to see Isaac
CHEESMAN who told me he was born 2nd month, Feby 22nd, 1752.

February 15th 1827 ~ Herald says Jedediah ALLEN [ALLYN] and Hannah ABBOTT,
daughter of Samuel, married 7th inst. And, that Thomas BORTON [BORDON] and
Elizabeth LIPPINCOTT married 8th inst. Matilda YARNALL [YARNELL] resides at
No. 9 Cherry Street, Philadelphia, between 3rd and 4th Streets.

February 23rd 1827 ~ Daniel J. PACKER married to Eliza JONES this evening; ye
widow of Noah JONES, and nee COLE.

February 27th 1827 ~ Was up stairs in ye Court House this p.m. and had
several shocks of electricity in ears, neck, shoulders, arms, etc. for
rheumatism by Doctor CRANE.

March 2nd 1827 ~ Took another electric treatment this p.m. between 4 and 5,
understanding Dr. CRANE was at ye Court House. Surprised to find about 20
persons there both young men and young women, and I among them had many
shocks and was so filled with ye electric fluid that on diverse of them
touching me, or my clothes, the fire would sparkle and fly out and give each
who touched me or my clothes a shock.

March 4th 1827 ~ At Cousin Samuel WEBSTER's to see Beulah SNOWDEN and also
met there with Rachel MICKLE, daughter of Isaac MICKLE late deceased; was
also at Daniel J. PACKER's place.

March 21st 1827 ~ Thomas CARPENTER here today.

March 23rd 1827 ~ Rebecca SAUNDERS' [SANDERS] and Hannah LORD's vendue of
their personal estate today. They intend to remove to Philadelphia.

April 1st 1827 ~ Went to see poorly Reuben JENNINGS [JENINGS] at his
son-in-law, Aaron PAUL's house, late ye farm of Thomas SCOTT, deceased, and
now William COOPER's farm.

April 6th 1827 ~ This p.m. at ye widow Elizabeth DAWSON's house, who is in
trouble over ye marriage of her son, John, on 15th ult.

April 11th 1827 ~ Today's Herald says [that] William MICKLE was married in
Philadelphia ye 3rd inst. to Charity TURNER.

April 12th 1827 ~ Martha STERLING, wife of Samuel STERLING, deceased this
morning.

April 18, 1827 ~ Woodbury Herald of this day proclaims Josiah R. ANDREWS
married 12th inst. to Achsah COOPER, daughter of David COOPER, at
Haddonfield. Same date [12th inst.] at Woodstown, William CARPENTER, Jr., of
Mannington, married Hannah SCULL, daughter of Gideon SCHULL, deceased.

April 25th 1827 ~ In this day's Herald, met with an interesting biographical
notice of Roger SHERMAN of New England, who was one of ye company that
attended my wedding 10th month 24th day 1776. He is said to have deceased at
New Haven [Connecticut] in 7th month 1793, aged 72 years. This was the
person of that name who signed the Declaration of Independence, a member of
ye Continental Congress in 1776.

April 26th 1827 ~ Charity SLEEPER, from Ohio, at Prep. Meeting.

April 26th 1827 ~ [Samuel MICKLE's tenants:] Michael CARPENTER, occupied
tenement No. 2; Elizabeth DAWSON, tenement No. 3; Samuel JOHNSON, tenement
No. 4, bought of Enoch ALLEN [ALLYN]. Tenement No. 5 was bought of Enoch
DOUGHTY, Sheriff.

May 1st 1827 ~ Susannah TATUM [TATEM], widow of William, deceased in her 88th
year, born 10th month Oct. 1739.

May 13th 1827 ~ Caroline CADE, daughter of John CADE, jailor, deceased in her
17th year.

May 18th 1827 ~ John G. WHITALL, of Red Bank, deceased last night, aged 44
years 10 months and 10 days.

May 23rd 1827 ~ Eliza WARD, widow of Charles WARD and daughter of Thomas
CLARK, deceased at her father's house this morning, aged 29 years and 25 days.

May 24th 1827 ~ Funeral of Eliza WARD. As it passed my house, counted 37
carriages in ye funeral procession.

May 27th 1827 ~ Ann REEVES [REEVE] on visit and told in her 87th year.

June 2nd 1827 ~ At 6 o'clock a.m., thermometer 49 ½ degrees. Fire most of
day in stove.

June 16th 1827 ~ Cooper WELLS, brother of, and partner with Richard M. WELLS,
deceased this morning. [They occupying ye store belonging to cousin Sibyl
RULON]. Buried in Friends Burial Ground ye 17th.

June 17th 1827 ~ Mickle WHITALL on short visit; arrived in Philadelphia 13th
instant from Canton in China.

June 24th 1827 ~ Sarah BASSET, wife of Nathan, deceased last 9th month, this
from Margery M. HOPPER. [NOTE: Entered in diary September 15th 1826.]

June 27th 1827 ~ Elizabeth FRIEND, assistant from Westown School, dined and
informed me that boarding, mending and washing at said school is $80 per
annum each scholar.

June 28th 1827 ~ At cousin Josiah TATUM's in p.m. Took tea with his wife and
Sarah STEPHENS and Lydia REEVE. Said Sarah teaching school in said Josiah
TATUM's family.

June 30th 1827 ~ Brought home from Cousin H. MICKLE, a 38 page biographical
memoir of Richard JORDAN of Newton, this county, deceased 10th month 13th day
1826.

July 1st 1827 ~ Describes Canal Philadelphia to Reading and Maiden Creek, 84
bridges and 37 locks, fare $5.00 one way besides diet lodging at tavern 12 ½
cents. Trip made by M. M. SAUNDERS [SANDERS].

July 4th 1827 ~ Favored in Woodbury with stillness, but not so favored at
Sweedesborough this frolicking day.

July 7th 1827 ~ Matilda YARNALL [YARNELL] and infant son, William, about 4
months old, arrived in ye stage.

July 8th 1827 ~ Cousin Benjamin WHITALL and Mickle WHITALL on short visit ye
p.m.

July 14th 1827 ~ William YARNALL [YARNELL] to follow his Brig to New Castle,
bound to the Brazils South America. His wife continues with us yet.

July 17th 1827 ~ Joseph GARWOOD and brother, John, arrived here today to
whitewash.

July 23rd 1827 ~ Read pamphlet entitled, An Examination of an Epistle issued
by a meeting of ye followers of Elias HICKS, at Green Street Meeting House,
Philadelphia.

July 30th 1827 ~ At memorable monthly meeting which held till about 4 p.m.
Sat down to dine 5 p.m. Four of committee of yearly meeting attended. Also
4 or 5 seceders from Green Street Meeting, Philadelphia. One of them named
Abraham LOWER held forth several times, also our Joseph CLEMENT, endeavoring
to invalidate ye appointment of said committee of yearly meeting. A favored
meeting and favored to proceed much better than expected.

August 13th 1827 ~ Uncle Timothy MATLACK's daughter, Catherine MURRAY,
residing with her father about 11 miles from Philadelphia, accompanied by
Hester MATLACK, daughter of Abraham MATLACK, residing about 1 mile this side
of Moorestown, said Catherine MURRAY, aged 60 years last 4th month.

August 13th 1827 ~ Grand-daughter of Timothy MATLACK, of Haddonfield, visited
today.

August 15th 1827 ~ Herald says [that] on 11th instant, Margaret TREADWAY,
aged nearly 90 years, deceased.

August 16th 1827 ~ Quarterly meeting day for business, but none done by
reason of not being select, Isaac T. HOPPER, a disowned person from
Philadelphia, continuing to sit all ye time of said meeting though much
advised to withdraw.

August 17th 1827 ~ Cousin Benjamin WHITALL, son of Joseph and Hannah; and
Sarah, daughter of John S. WHITALL, gave me a short call.

August 17th 1827 ~ Minerva JOHNSON, wife of Samuel JOHNSON, (my tenants),
deceased yesterday. Interred at Presbyterian Burial Ground.

August 19th 1827 ~ George JONES and wife, from England, on a religious visit
appeared in testimony.

August 20th 1827 ~ Deborah BROWN, wife of Mark BROWN, at Swedesboro, deceased
this a.m. Interment at Woodbury. Said Deborah was daughter of James
WHITALL, Jr., and formerly widow of Aaron HEWES [HUGHES] of Middleton.

August 21st 1827 ~ In Philadelphia at John TOWNSEND, Jr. where his father
John TOWNSEND, Sr. deceased 3rd month 8th day last in his 80th year.

August 28th 1827 ~ Letter from Matilda YARNALL [YARNELL] says her brother,
Charles ALBERTI [ALBERTY], deceased last week at age 35 years.

September 1st 1827 ~ Child of Joseph SAUNDERS [SANDERS], Rebecca Ann
SAUNDERS, deceased, aged a little over one year.

September 3rd 1827 ~ Cousin Samuel MICKLE, Jr. and wife, Rachel, gave us a
visit, thence to his father's place. Engrossed my will.

September 4th 1827 ~ Visited ye p.m. by Nathan BURNETT [BARNETT~?] and wife
Rachel, daughter of cousin Samuel MICKLE, Jr., who T'd. [had tea ~?]

September 7th 1827 ~ Cousin Samuel MICKLE, Jr. and wife left us ye a.m. on
their way homeward about 45 miles from Philadelphia; said Samuel born 12th
month 4th day 1780.

September 12th 1827 ~ My birthday. Commencing 82nd year.

September 13th 1827 ~ At a fire in Woodbury; ye roof of Joseph SAUNDERS'
[SANDERS] blacksmith shop, formerly Isaac BALLENGER's, part burned off.

September 20th 1827 ~ Margaret PINE, wife of Daniel, deceased today.

September 23rd 1827 ~ Heard [that] Samuel RICHARDS deceased in his 66th year.
Brother of Sarah SAUNDERS [SANDERS]. Also that Hannah LANCASTER, deceased
about two weeks since, ye wife of John.

September 25th 1827 ~ Was ye p.m. at Captain Benjamin F. BACHE's to which
place my stove was now removed from my No. 4 and but 6 joints of pipe
including the elbow. Mentions the deplorable condition of Deptford school
house yard.

October 5th 1827 ~ Two of the daughters of Nathan BASSETT viz: Elizabeth and
Beulah, being home on a visit, say their mother, Sarah, deceased 9th month
15th day 1826, aged nearly 56 years. She was the daughter of John SAUNDERS
[SANDERS] deceased.

October 7th 1827 ~ Read poems and journal of Moses GUEST, lent me by Anna
GUEST.

October 8th 1827 ~ Doctress black Rhoda MANN belaboured my rheumatic right
shoulder and arm.

October 10th 1827 ~ Election yesterday at Squancum and today at Woodbury and
I gave my vote ye p.m. for such candidates in council and assembly as I
judged were not favorable to General Andrew JACKSON, being promoted to the
Presidency of the United States next year.

October 10th 1827 ~ Richard WELLS married Anne M. LAYCOCK.

October 25th 1827 ~ John V. CLARK of Paulsboro, deceased the 22nd inst.

October 28th 1827 ~ Thomas LAY, of Philadelphia, deceased. I knew and lived
near him when an apprentice in said place, he being a solid Friend.

November 5th 1827 ~ Subscribed for ye weekly publication entitled "The
Friend" and paid to John REEVE ye subscription money for ye year ensuing,
$2.00 in advance, beginning at No. 1 of said publication, the said John REEVE
holding ye subscription paper.

November 22nd 1827 ~ John TATUM [TATEM] lent me Elisha BATES' Miscellaneous
Repository,Vol. 1st, 4th month, 1827, published monthly.

November 25th 1827 ~ Elizabeth and Lydia REEVE [REEVES], daughters of Peter
REEVE deceased and Sarah STEPHENS; daughter of Isaac STEPHENS and tutoress in
ye dwelling house of Josiah TATUM and Mary and Anne COOPER, daughters of
Cousin William COOPER in company at John TATUM's place.

November 26th 1827 ~ Monthly meeting. Amos PEASLEE [PEASLY or PEASLEY] gave
a short preachment.

November 27th 1827 ~ Visited with Michael CARPENTER and his brother Samuel,
this a.m.

December 2nd 1827 ~ Benjamin SHEPPARD and wife, Mary, and child Letitia
Miller SHEPPARD, aged 8 weeks this day, called about 10 a.m. "Letitia" being
ye name of my mother.

December 4th 1827 ~ Arrived in Philadelphia about 10 a.m. and to
McALLISTER's to see about changing spectacle glasses. He proposed my
bringing my other spectacle frames to fix ye glasses therein for reading by
candle light. Thence to many places in pursuit of a brass lamp.

December 8th 1827 ~ Read Thomas SHILLETOE's interesting address to Friends in
England and Ireland, dated 11-1-1820, pamphlet No. 174.

December 12th 1827 ~ Moses WATSON, who come to live with me in 1783, now
resides about two miles distant from Haddonfield, says he was born 5th month
11th day 1772.

December 13th 1827 ~ John COMLY, seceeder preacher, appeared in lengthy
discourse.

December 19th 1827 ~ Wrote and executed another codicil to my will.

December 20th 1827 ~ Benjamin DUNHAM residing about 8 miles beyond
Carpenter's Landing, will deliver 40 m. plastering in about 2 weeks @ $2.25
per M.

December 31st 1827 ~ Monthly Meeting at which Thomas SHILLITOE, from Ireland,
appeared in favored testimony.
