1683 Aug. 7. Fenwick, John, late of Benfield, County of Berks,
England, Esqre, the late Absolute Lord of Cheife Proprietr by Law &
Survivorship of the Province of New Caesaria or New Jersey, And now of
Fenwicks Colony; will of. Grandchildren Fenwick Adams, Samuel Hedge
junior, John Champneys, Mary Champneys, Walter Adams, Mary Adams, Ann Adams,
the second son of Samuel Hedge, daughter of Ann Hedge, wife of Samuel, all
under age; John Adams, friend Mary White, nephew Roger, eldest son of
deceased brother, Capt. Ralfe Fenwick. Regarding Elizabeth Adams,
apparently also a granddaughter, testator says: I doe Except against
Elizabeth Adams of haveing any of the least pte of my Estate & her heirs for
ever, Except the Lord open her eyes to See the abominable Transgression
against him, me & her poore father by giveing her true repentance &
fersakeing yt Black yt hath been the ruine of her and becoming pennitent for
her sins, etc.; makes son-in-law Samuel Hedge Secretary and Register,
Richard Tindall Surveyor General and Thomas Smith Deputy Surveyor General,
all for life; the Town of Salem to be settled as proposed, Cohaziek as the
executors agree. Real and personal estate. Executors John Smith, of
Smithfield, Samuel Hedge of Hedgefield, and Richard Tindall of Tindalls
Bowery, who are each to have 500 acres of land for their trouble. Witnesses
Thomas Yorke alias Carey and Thomas Webley. Proved April 16, 1684.
