Donna Ristenbatt raised some possible connections between a
number of families that appear in various early church records. Of
course, I am particularly interested in the Brickman related ones.
I am not sure I am far enough along to contribute to the discussion
but I am interested in what those with experience in reviewing
baptisms etc make of the likely connections between the
witnesses and sponsors to the family whose child is being
baptised. Anyone care to comment? Are they most likely related?
Could just as easily be family friends? Are there conventions?
For example, in the reference to the 1788 baptism in the Paramus
Reformed Dutch Church of Reinhart son of Lodewick and Marytje,
the witnesses were Pieter and Catriena Swin. Can those who have
the Swin family shed any light on what connection, if any, there
was between these families? And would the Ramapo Lutheran
Church be the same or different?
Some time ago I read a genealogist's statement suggesting such
people were related. Input will be most appreciated!
