SECOND GENERATION
4. William Courter was born about 1751 and d 8 Feb 1843. He
married Catrina Winter.
Catrina Trintie Winter was the daughter of William Winter and
Hester Haldron.
Catrina was born on 7 Jun 1753. She was baptized on 15 Jul 1753
in Scharaalenburg, Bergen, NJ.
She is missing from 1830 census therefore the assumption is made
she died before 1830.

More Militia Men...
Some of you might be interesterd in the exact source of these
militia lists:
Both yesterdays and the one following are from the Federal
Archives Muster Rolls of Men who served in the Revolutionary
War . All film in this category is stored as M246 , and these
particular films are on Roll #64. Outwaters Troops section
consisits of a series of 12 items photographed from the originals
in 1896 by the war department. Included are 4 or 5 lists, of
varying legibility, handwritten and water marked, showing for a 3
month period which men were active and how much they were payed.
Most of the other pages are handwritten notes about rather minor
things. Some troops have more organized Rolls, but Outwaters
Rolls are among the better ones.

Someone on the list asked me whether all the men of Bergen County
were active here. I dont know the answer, but one of the
handwritten scraps of paper on the film had the following, which
I think speaks to the question somewhat:
The foregoing is a copy of one of the rolls sent to the pension
office by Mr. David Rye of Clarkstown. Mr. Bartolf, whose name is
on this Roll, informed me that it was a Company of Six Month Men
(so called) in the year 1780. And was stationed at Hackensack and
that some of the Militia Men, himself among the rest, underdid(?)
their quota of Militia Service in the Company in preference for
being taxed. Thus the left hand list {has no payment indicated}
were the men enlisted for six months and the right hand list were
the militia men who served their quota of service in this
company. C.A. Lay
Another Source that the Federal Archives has is called Compiled
Service Records of Men who Served in the Revolutionary War .
This, also, is less exciting than it sounds as it is a series of
small individual forms for each man, name at the top, indicating
how much $ that individual is owed for the 1,3 or 6 month period
of time. Some of the men have 1 of these, others have several. I
must say they are quite nice to look at as the handwriting is
careful and formal. I will go through these and find the
men who have not been listed in the muster rolls recorded, and
list them as the other Men of Outwaters Troops.

This is an addendum to the Muster list I sent a few minutes ago.
I mentioned, but did not include, that the Federal Archives has a
2nd source called "Compiled Service Records of Men Who Served in
the Revolutionary War". I failed to mention the following:
These films are catalogued together as "M881" and the section
including "our" men is on Roll #644.
