Subject: Re: [NJBERGEN] Early Saddle River records - where???
Date: Tue, 7 Sep 1999 21:06:31 EDT
Thanks to all who replied to my question about Saddle River records. I was
surprised to hear that Saddle River Township was different from Saddle River
as I didn't know that - I will definitely try the Saddle River Reformed
church and see what they have. Is there anyplace else I should contact that
might have records for Saddle River township 1800 to 1820? If any of you know
of any non-church (ie tax) records, etc, I am still looking for any and all
traces of my VERY elusive Albert Van Winkle. I wanted to add that Albert's
wife Margaret Bush may have also been known as Grietje instead of Margaret,
and Bos or Bosch instead of Bush. I don't know if there is a Dutch version
of Albert - have seen Albertse as a middle name so probably not. I sometimes
wonder if Albert was a middle name and he was also known by another name? He
definitely married Margaret, and I do strongly think he is descended from one
of the Bergen Van Winkles that trace back to Jacob Waling - but until I
figure out which one was his father I am at a brick wall to proceed. Albert
named one of his sons Jacob and his daughter Hannah (or Annatje) - and he
married the daughter of Lodowick Bush, who was the neighbor of Simeon Van
Winkle of Bergen. Also Lodowick moved to Ontario (later Yates) Co., NY which
is where Timothy Van Winkle also emigrated - Timothy was the son of Simeon &
Mary Fulsome Van Winkle. Lodowick also lived in Rockland Co., NY so I guess
I will try there, also.
Thanks again for all the replies,
Kari
