Subject: [NJBERGEN] Correction on WANAMAKER/POST/LOYALISTS
Date: Sun, 23 Jul 2000 21:57:37 -500

I had sent the below message yesterday and while looking over the
actual transcript of Elizabeth Post's deposition, I did discover some
errors. Also, Derrick A Wannamaker was in Colonel Abraham
BUSKIRK's regiment under Capt. Peter RUTAN. I also found that
according to another deposition of Elizabeth's, that the land was bought
by Derrick's uncle, Henry WANNAMAKER, which "muddies the waters"
somewhat. Can someone help me figure out who this Henry
WANMAKER is? I have all the deeds that show this land exchange.
Henry bought Derick's/Richard A's land in 1787 from Benjamin
SHOTWELL.

Also, with the land below, the amount should be 100 acres. Additionally
the time period when Elizabeth came to Canada, as well as John POST
her new husband, is 1783, not 1788.

A cousin sent the information below on Richard Wannamaker, who is
listed on my home page under the Loyalist Regiments. (4th NJ) This
deposition is a goldmine of information. Now, one thing I will comment
on. I *believe* (am not certain) Loral Wanamaker places this Richard/Derrick
in the family of Hermanus Wannamaker. However, there is a Sherriff's deed of sale
from 1787 that lists this man as Derrick A WANNAMAKER, not Derrick
H. My genealogical instincts feel that he is the son of Adam
WANNEMACHER, son of Johann Dietrich WANNEMACHER and Anna
Kunigunda KORNMANN. This deposition states he was the oldest son,
and so that seems to indicate that if Adam's son, Adam would have
named his first son "Richard." I have found 4 children for Adam (no
wife's name given) in the Ramapo Lutheran Church. If anyone has any
others, please let me know. Thank you. By the way, the cousin gave
me permission to post this. And for those who may be in the dark, we
are talking about Loyalists who went to Canada. And Richard did die in
Philadelphia gaol in 1780, and was from Capt. Van BUSKIRK's
regiment.- 4th NJ.
