Hello,
I agree completely with you,John. My family has lived
for many years,going back to the 1700's, in the
Closter and Schraalenburg area in Bergen County and
none of the ever referred to the area as the English
Neighborhood. That was always down in Fort Lee,
Ridgefield, Leonia, Fairview,etc. A really good map
showing the location of the various areas of old
Bergen County is the one drawn for the Bergen County
Board of Freeholders by the Bicentennial Commission in
1976. It can be found in the front of the book "The
Revolutionary War in the Hackensack Valley" by Adrian
C. Leiby as well as other places.
