Hi, Again, Everyone,
I should have posted all of the information I knew originally about Abner Taylor. Sorry to bother you one more time, but here it is now.
My Revolutionary War ancestor Abner Taylor's sister was named Mary Ferguson, his daughter was named Catherine Taylor and he had a son who resided in NYC. I looked up what I else I knew about Catherine Taylor and her husband, Reuben Hope. Reuben Hope lived in NYC ( was a pilot in 1809 living at #6 Rose St., then in 1832-1833 he lived at 59 James St. and was a Portwarden at 55 Wall Street), but by 1841 he retired and lived on farms, first in Hopewell, NY, near Ellenville, now Ulster County and by 1850 he was living at Dolsentown, NY, near Nyack, now Rockland County. He is buried with his wife Catherine Taylor at Oak Hill Cemetery, Nyack, NY. I tried to write to the cemetery many years back but the guy couldn't make a connection--needed
better dates.
Information from my original post is pasted below, to serve as a memory jog.
Abner Taylor was born in Pine's Bridge, Westchester County, NY in 1753 and lived in Clarkstown, Orange County, NY at the time he enlisted. At the time of his second enlistment he lived in Bergen County, NJ and then in the winter of 1778 moved to Hempstead, Orange County, (which was Ramapo, Rockland County in 1833--not sure if NY or NJ?). In 1810 or 1816 he moved to Camillus in Onondaga County, NY; seven years later he moved to Junius in Seneca County, NY; two years later he moved to Phelps in Ontario County, NY; then three years later he moved to Seneca in Ontario County, NY; and three years later from there to Benton in Yates County, NY.
He fought under Captains Abraham Onderdonk, Terwilliger and John Cooley; all under Colonel Hay. His Revolutionary War Pension application is fascinating.
Any bells ringing?
Celia
