Subject: [NJBergen] Rogers Redux (NJ/NY)

This Rogers family seems to migrate back and forth across the north
NJ/southern NY border, with an uncanny knack of moving to where records
aren't. This adds a little information to my last post.
These are supposed to be the children of John Rogers and Mary Ellen Stevens.
John never shows up on any census.
Mary Ellen Rogers b. 11 Feb. 1818 NY m. James Riley Nov. 1835. In Pompton
Twp. in 1840, Pequannock in 1850 My ancestors.
Nicholas Rogers b. 1813-1816 NY m. Catherine Jacobus 24 Jan. 1839 Pompton
Plains Reformed. In NYC 1850. Son Philip in Montville 1880.
William Rogers b. abt. 1817 NY. m. bef. 1840. In Pompton 1840 &50.
John Rogers b. 1820-22 NJ. m Mary Williams abt. 1848. In Pompton 1850. Died
1852 in Panama. Daughter Mary.
Harriet Rogers b. abt. 1825 NY m. David Babcock Pompton Lakes Ref (thanks
Leslie!) 1846. In Warwick 1850, Pompton 1860&70.
Phebe Ann Rogers b. abt. 1827 NY. m. William Hunter Pompton Plains Ref.
1847. In Warwick 1850.
Jacob Rogers b. NY m. Katie bef. 1845. A mystery. (I think) his son John
shows up in Pompton on the 1880 census.
Possibly Ann Rogers b. abt 1827, died 1862.
Thomas Rodgers in Pompton on the 1830 census (d. 1835) is called Mary
Riley's father on her death certificate of 1881, but he only has 1 daughter
(she is Mary's age). He, James Riley, Mary Williams, David Babcock, and 2 of
David's sons were all buried together. James Riley, William Rogers, and
Mary's father were all blacksmiths.
2 other Rodgers appear on the Pompton 1830 census. David is 20-30 and has an
under 5 daughter. Nathan P. (also 20-30) has 3 sons under 10. But they
disappear by 1840. Thomas had 4 sons about the right ages, but I am still
short daughters.
There is an interesting Mary Rodgers/Rogers in Wallkill who is a widow and
the correct age (b. abt. 1792) on the 1850 & 60 censuses. I am waiting on
the NY 1855 Census to get a closer look (this lists county of birth if that
helps anyone).
If this (mess!)looks familiar to anyone, please let me know.
Mahalo and take care, Kevin
