Hello Janice Brazil: You inquired about FISHER/VALENTINE/BARTHOLF/BERTHOLF families:

I have also long sought the origins of the FISHER family of the Bergen Co., NJ/Rockland Co, NY area, as well.

Found a John and George FISHER recorded one immediately after the other in 1700s census for Rockland County (on the border of NJ, which is where Ramsey is). Also, found a George FISHER in 1820 Rockland Co., NY census (might have been father of George below?):

Please contact me, if of interest - my ancestors: George FISHER b. abt 1817 d, 31 May 1881, m. 3 Jul 1839 N.Y. Catherine Elizabeth MYERS (a BLAUVELT descendant, d/o Stephen MYERS and Rachel DEBAUN) b. 12 Jul 1818, Nyack, Rockland Co., NY, bp. 17 Aug 1818 Clarkstown Dutch Reformed Church, d. 9 Jan 1868, buried with husband, daughter, mother and others of family at Oak Hill Cemetery, Nyack, NY. Only known child, a daughter Sarah Jane FISHER, b. 2 Jul 1841, N.Y., there might have been others, or, George could have had brothers to carry on the name FISHER.

George FISHER (33), spouse Catherine Elizabeth (32) and daughter Sarah Jane (10) are found in the 1850 census in NYC's Ward 16 in the census. His occupation then was "mason".

A Susan E. BERTHOLF b. 19 Jan 1832 (d/o Wm. W. BERTHOLF and Leah ACKERMAN) m. my 3rd great grand uncle Abraham MYERS, brother of Catherine Elizabeth above. Their son Stephen was b. 1850; Susan then m. 11 Mar 1851 Erastus DUNN. (Young Stephen MYERS b. Jun 1850 grew up to marry and have two sons, Susan? and Abram?).

Also have info on some VALENTINE families ranging from 1600's to 1800's (do not seem to be directly related to my family, so far, but have peripheral connections, but most of these families did.) Regards, Arlene
