Hi all,
I'm looking to connect with anyone researching the LOWE and SOHNKER families
from Germany to NYC to Bergen Co., NJ.
One of my WROCKLAGE relatives married Anna SOHNKER on 3/14/1878 in Manhattan.
Anna had a brother (I believe he was a brother) named John Herman and a
sister (I believe she was a sister named Margaretha. It was Margaretha who came
over with Anna from Germany on the ship "Mosel". They arrived in NYC on
4/28/1877. According to Anna's death certificate, her parents were Herman SOHNKER and
Anna TEMME
John Herman SOHNKER married Doretta/Dorothy Lowe abt. 1882 I believe in
Bergen Co. I found John and Doretta in the 1900 & 1910 census in Teaneck, and in
the 1920 census in New Windsor, Orange Co., NY.
I also found Doretta and her family in the 1850 census in Manhattan, the 1860
& 1870 census in Hackensack, and in the 1880 census in Ridgefield. By 1880
Doretta's mother Mary in dead and her father Garrett/Jared is age 71. According
the these census records, Doretta had three sisters: Mary, Ann and Margaret
and a brother: Henry G. F., who lived with Doretta and her family after she
married John Sohnker.
If anyone has any information on these Lowe and Sohnker families, I would
love to share info with you!!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth M. Wrocklage
