Hi,
If I might add some additional information that may help. There is a
Fairfield Township in Cumberland County. Not having a map with the townships
marked, a fair guess would be that Fairton was in this township. Someone being
noted as living in Fairfield, in NJ language would mean that they lived out of
a designated town. Also as a child we referred to Back Neck as an area south
of Salem running on down the coast through the low marshy areas where we went
crabbing and fishing.
