Yesterday, my daughter took our Great Dane a ride into East Fork State
Park to view Lake Harsha.
Homecoming is very soon-1st Sunday in October[?] and Jim Musgrove's got a
fresh coat of
white paint on the 1817 frame church [formerly Methodist]. Many of the
couples whose tombstones
I read were married in Galloway twnsp,of Atlantic Co,NJ, or Greenich and
Woolich Townships of
old Gloucester Co,NJ .And perhaps half lay nameless.I can talk hours on
their colony,both in s.NJ and
sw O hio.
And some of you that I talk to on OHCLERMO-L will have no trouble finding
your people's
stones. They are just inside the gate. Alexander Smith,John Wilson,Edward
Wilshire Salt,
Savil and Ruhama Blackman Justice, and Levi Doughty's are there. Back,on
the right,
are John and Sarah Blackman Collins,of Collins Mills,NJ; Jesse and
Elizabeth Wilson
Justice [near NJ friend John Drummond].Richard Collins next to a
Deal,[pine]
Civil War historians, the grandparents of General US Grant are buried
next to his son
John Simpson and Samuel Simpson-once from Gwynedd,Pa . And Wm and Martha
Baldwin
Johnson-he headed the largest vetrans group ever-The Grand Army of the
Republic- biggest monument.
Samuel Ely m Rachel Leeds in 1804 in Galloway. 1806 they came here.
tHE CEMETARY
is full of Ely's and Leed's,and s MD Hitch's.
There is 4-5 acres of cemetary, and it's been vandelized more since I
last walked in it. But,it's
been in a public park 30+ years now, passed by so many headed for Lake
Harsha's beach.
