Somone sent me this Bible information ( that was found on E-Bay) I
thought someone on this list may find a family connection.
Susan Winters
This bible was published in 1866 by "JOHN EDWIN POTTER, NO.617 SANSOM STREET,
PHILADELPHIA, PA. The condition of the bible is fair to poor because the
binding has separated from the spine and front cover. All of the pages are
present and the gold trimming is still on the edges, making it an excellent
candidate for restoration. This bible was produced with a hinged lock for keeping it
closed. There is a section for entering the owner's family history. In this
section is listed "James R. Ledden and Jane Turner, Glassboro, N.J. March 1809
with "children" written beneath this, followed by the names of their children
and birth dates: "Henry P. Ledden, Glassboro, N.J., Oct. 1833, Sarah J. Ledden,
Clayton, N.J., July 27, 1836, Louisa A. Ledden, Glassboro, January, 1841,
Abigail S. Ledden, "", February 16, 1848, Benjamin J. Ledden, "",July 1851. There
is also a section with photos that are older than the bible. As with most
photo-albums, there is never enough slots for the photos therefore, most of the
photo slots have several photos with only the top photo showing. One of the
photos has a two cent George Washington stamp that is from 1862. This stamp was
issued by the "INTERNAL REVENUE" AND IS A "PROPRIETARY" property stamp. The
stamp could be entered in another eBay section for auction but it is attached to
one of the photos. In one of the pictures you can see the bible that is for
auction today, resting on a table next to the lady's right arm. There are
approximately 25 to 30 antique photos and some are very early because the material
that they are on feels like some kind of metal and I have never seen this in
modern photos.. The inscription "photographed by Chas. Jameson, Harrisburg,
Pa." appears in the back of the lady's photograph.
