If they died in Hudson County and they were Catholic, write to Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City for info. I was told it is the only Catholic cemetery in Hudson County. Cemeteries usually file by name, not by date, but they record the date on the card. Holy Name will give all info.

Subject: [NJHUDSON-PROJECTS-L] Dammann
According to his Naturalization papers, my gr-grandfather, John Dammann
applied for citizenship in November of 1848 in New York and got his final
paper in Hudson County in January of 1856.
My grandfather, John C. was born on Jan. 1, 1852 in NYC, so the family was
still there at that time. However, I have been unable to find any trace of
them in either New York or New Jersey. Theoretically, John, Sr. and wife
Sophy (Sophia) should show up on the 1850 census in NY and there should be
some record of his death in NJ. However, I don't know when or where he
died and was buried. I know he died while my grandfather was a boy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Since I am posting this to both NY and NJ lists, I apologize to those of
you who get it twice.
