I am planning a research trip to Jersey City next month. Can anyone give me
some tips on obtaining naturalization records in
person? I have always done this by mail but I know there is a tremendous
backlog and last time I tried I never heard anything from them. (after
sending my money order for $3.00 for a search).

I know the naturalizations are in the PassPort Office in the county
administration building. The last time I was there the line (for pass
ports I guess) was out the door. It would have taken me hours to get any
assistance!

Can anyone explain to me how the records are filed-indexes available, are
the declarations separate from the petitions, etc.
Any help to make this research trip more productive will be very much
appreciated. :<)

Thank you,

Chris Smith
