> Death Certificates:
> To obtain a death certificate for someone who died in the State of New
Jersey, write to the State Registrar of Vital Statistics, State Health
Department, CN 370, Trenton, NJ 08625-0370. Your request should state that
you are requesting the document for genealogical purposes and that you are
the deceased's great-niece. The fee is $4.00 for one name plus $1.00 for
each additional year searched. There are expedited services available for a
higher fee. Their web site www.state.nj.us/health/vital/vital.htm has the
details and an application for vital records. Vital Statistics' phone
number is 609-292-4087. In recent years, the death certificates that I've
ordered from the State of New Jersey have come with the cause of death
blacked out.

> City Directories:
> The Jersey City Directory included both Jersey City and Hoboken. It is
available in paper form at the Jersey City Library and the Hoboken Library.
It is available on microfilm at the New York Public Library research branch,
5th Avenue between 41st Street and 42nd Street, Manhattan. Other people
have mentioned that it is available at other libraries in New Jersey. I
don't remember which libraries or whether the directories were on paper or
microfilm. Because the directories have been microfilmed, I suspect they
are available from FHCs but I have not verified this.
> West Hoboken Directories cover West Hoboken, Union, and West New York.
Isolated years are available at the Jersey City Library. I haven't checked
anywhere else.

> I wonder if it's possible for the Hudson County web site to add a where to
find it section with information on where resources like the Jersey City and
West Hoboken directories are located and what information they include.
