Subject: [NJHUDSON-L] Memorial High School in West New York
Date: Fri, 26 Apr 2002 17:13:13 EDT
According to the West New York School District Web Site, "At the end of World
war One, Memorial High School was dedicated in memory of the Americans who
had died in the war. At the entrance is a list of names of the 14 men from
West New York who died in that struggle."
Go to http://www.wnyschools.net/hwnybio.htm for a page called "WNY
Biography," which is very informative, although they omit the fact that
before West New York incorporated as a "town" in 1898, it was the "Township
of Union." This was very confusing since the northern half of present day
Union City was the "Town of Union," popularly known as "Union Hill." When
the Township of Union merged with the Town of West Hoboken in 1925, the new
municipality took the name "Union City."
