Seeking information about Freeman Anderson (b.Oct 1788- d. 7 Dec 1788) and
his wife Mary (b. 1783 -d. 22 Feb 1840).
This couple lived on Staten Island in 1820, per census. They had daughters
Sarah (married name Marsh) and Cordelia (1820-1866) and Josephine
(1823-1823). In 1830, the couple lived in Jersey City and lived there until
their deaths. However, Freeman was in NYC (possibly on business?) when he
died. Freeman, Mary, and baby Josephine are all buried in Rahway Cemetery.
There is a possibility that Freeman was related to John Anderson (buried at
same cemetery) who owned the Merchant and Drovers Tavern in Rahway during
the Revolution. This is just a guess; I have no proof. Mary Anderson's will
mentions her daughters, Sarah Marsh and Cordelia Anderson; it also mentions
Dutillah Miller, Catherine Smith, and George Anderson, but does not name the
relationships. Witnesses/ executors involved in the estates of Freeman and
Mary were John R. Marsh, Moses Miller, David Smith, John Horsburgh, Ben F.
Woolsey, John Goodman. Does anyone have any further information about this
family?
