Thank you so much, Kirsten. Whatever record searches you think would be most
productive. For time frames & places:
William Current was b. abt. 1740 in Northern Ireland. Came to America
1745-47, just a boy- probably 5-12 years old, orphaned enroute. What port
might that have been in? Tradition says he came directly to NJ. But, might
that have been a NY port?
Taken in by Elisha Barton and wife as indentured servant immediately. Which
Elisha Barton? (Must be one b. at least by 1720 to qualify as
indenture-holder.) Where did this Barton family live? NY or NJ? What type
of trade were they in? - linen mill industry? William willed an entire
weaving/loom house, with tackling, to his children. Where did he learn this
trade, if not during his indenture? Would there be a record of such an
early indenture somewhere?
Joseph Lemon buys land in Beaver Brook, Oxford Twp., Sussex Co. in 1772 -
first record I have of him. Joseph Lemon's daughter Esther and William
Current were already married prior to this date. (Guessing abt. 1765, based
on their age and birth of their first child.) Where did they meet and
marry? (A marriage record would be awesome!)
Were Wm. & Esther with Joseph when he bought land in Sussex Co? First
record of William Current is 1773 tax rolls, Oxford, Sussex co. Where-ever
Joseph Lemon was prior to buying land in Oxford, William was certainly in
the same place. Found Lemons by various spellings in Orange Co., NY, as
well as most areas covered by early Burlington Co., NJ.
Any type of earlier records would be awesome!
