Mrs. Emma Grenell Wells, for many years a resident of Port Jervis, died last
Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Malven, 25 Dean Place,
Poughkeepsie, NY. she was born in Port Jervis on May 4, 1837, and was the
daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Zelotes Grenell. Mr. Grenell was several years
pastor of the Port Jervis Baptist Church and was later located at Glenwood.
The greater part of her life was spent in Port Jervis. On June 15, 1859, she
was united in marriage with Edgar Austin Wells and on June 15, 1909, they
celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Wells died in Port Jervis
on May 4, 1913. For several years she has made her home in Poughkeepsie.
The surviving relatives are two daughters, Mrs. Frank Malven and Miss Anna
E. Wells , of Poughkeepsie; tow sons, Dr. Fred L. Wells, of Des Moines,
Iowa, and George M. Wells, of Muscatine, Iowa, and one brother, Judson
Grenell, of Clearwater, Fla. The funeral was held at Poughkeepsie Saturday
morning and interment took place that afternoon in Laurel Grove Cemetery,
Port Jervis.
