Message Board Post:

Given what you state about connection to Padre Martinez, and also the BACA and CANDELARIA surnames, there is some possibility that some in those families converted to Protestant (most likely Presbyterian, Methodist or Baptist) in the mid to late 1800s. If so, you may have great difficulty finding genealogical info on them.
If any were in the Rio Abajo of NM (Valencia, Socorro, Sierra, Dona Ana counties) you might check out the Socorro Methodist records (marriage, baptism, membership) posted on our website: www.myfamily.com (go to old/classic view in upper right)and login as: Username = Estimado (upper case E, rest lower case) and Password = guest (all lower case).
Browse to File Cabinet (check "All Files" in tab at upper right) and go to the Excel spreadsheet file "Socorro NM Methodist Records" - you'll have to spend some time browsing/searching these records, check tabs at bottom of spreadsheet (you can download the file) but there are many BACA and CANDELARIA entries.
