Margit,
My grandmother's name in America was Rena Nilsen/Nelson. In Norway her given
name was Røonnaug Hansen. Her father was Hans Nilsen and the family went by
Nilsen/Nelson when they came to America -- all but one son, who kept the Hansen
(and all but one sister changed their given names!). She was born May 14, 1875
according to all the records I have, both in Norway and the U.S. But some
years ago I received a message that said there were two Rønnaugs in the family
and the one who emigrated was born in 1879. It was when I first began
researching and I don't know where it came from. The family emigrated to Sioux City,
Iowa.
