Ardith,
What I actually said is that Else Arnesdatter Bakke -- married name Else
Arnesdatter Sylte -- was the sister of my great great grandfather, Peder
Arnesen Bakke. Else was the mother of Mathea Christensdatter Sylte, John
Klemetson's wife. So your grandmother Mathea was the cousin of my great
grandfather, John Arnesen.
I am interested in finding out whatever I can about Syltes and their
spouses/children in the US, since Lake Park isn't all that far from Benson,
Minnesota, where my grandfather grew up. I strongly suspect that there must
have been contact between the Arnesens and the Syltes in the 1800s, at
least.
As far as I know, the only Arnesens in the US that I am related to are
descendants of my own grandfather, Herbert Peter Arnesen. My great
grandfather did have several other brothers who emigrated, but as far as I
know only John and Anthon Arnesen had any children, and Anthon's only son
died unmarried.
I would be interested in hearing about your Sylte ancestors, and in sharing
information I have about the Bakkes and Syltes in Norway, if you don't
already have it.
