Message Board Post:

Hi,

Over the course of the last three weeks, I (painstakingly slowly!) have been recording the births/marriages/deaths of individuals whose names and farms in Gran and Sndre Land might have been associated with my ancestor, Rangdi Jacobsdatter (Randi Jacobson Melquist). I have used DIGITALARKIVET online images of the church records of the early to mid-1700s of those two parishes to do so. By listing sponsors and witnesses from various births and marriages, I hope to create a better understanding of the names of the people with whom they associated -- likely close relatives and friends. Here's an example from Gran:
1724:
Jens Erlandsen Tislebachens barn, Gudmund Jensen - p. 162 - f: Torger Hansen Dlen,Jacob Pedersen Braaum, Jens Olsen Egge, Isore?Olsdtr Dlen, Sigri Evensdtr Egge,Anne Hansdtr Egge
Erick Pedersen Bleckeneiets barn, Peder Ericksen - p. 162 - f: Joen Olsen Blecken,
Lars Olsen Blecken, Peder Pedersen Blecken, Aase Olsdtr Kios, Guri Olsdtr Blecken

My question: Has somebody already gone through the records to create a database? It seems odd, given the many years the church records have been available via Family Search (LDS films), that no such listings exist. I am a Hadeland Lag of America member and can't find such a listing on their excellent website. The early 1700s time period is what is most frustrating, since the earliest census I believe is accessible for this county is the 1801.

Any thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated. I know that a project to create such a database would be daunting, but if many people volunteered to contribute to it, the 1700s could be completed fairly quickly. Just a thought, and maybe a foolish one at that. Thanks.

Jan
