You can lose yourself for hours on this Solum and Swiggum web site! I only
found two ships going to Quebec in 1870-and no grandpa-but I spent hours
poring over passenger lists. One even gave how much the trip cost (like 50
cents), who paid the fee and to whom they were going in the United States. I
was amazed to find a 17-year-old boy who was heading to his aunt's house
right here at 241 N. 14th Street in San Jose around the turn of the century.
And that house is probably still there!
