Thanks so much for the further explanation, Diane. I tried and tried today
to understand on the Digitalarkivet, so you have given me hope for tomorrow.
But does anyone know which possible ports a Vestfold resident would have
used? Is there more than one or is Bergen-Quebec pretty much their only
choice? How about Kristiana? Oslo?

I am wondering now just what kept my grandfather in Montreal for the
remainder of his life, whereas most Norwegians who entered through Quebec
populated and farmed in the mid-western states. But, then again, I can find
nothing to show that he lived on a farm in Norway, either. He had something
to do with the sea-all my father ever said he was a fisherman and Rune said
possibly Navy or Coast Guard. <sigh> I wonder if I shall ever have the
pieces to the puzzle.

Thanks for all your work in helping us with the Digitalarkivet!

Take care...

Kay
