Vicki, how kind of you! I will tell you what I have learned.

My Rudolf was born Rudolf Bartolf Olsen on January 5, 1841 in Holmestrand.
(His birthdate matches perfectly with the Rudolph Barthol Olsen I found in
Quebec with my father listed among his family.) He apparently had the same
name as a brother born August 8, 1838 to the same parents. He was confirmed
at Botne church, Vestfold, on October 7, 1855. Rudolf emigrated to Quebec in
1870, ship and reason for emigration unknown.

Rudolf's parents were apparently Jacob Olsen, born December 9, 1807 and
confirmed October 8th, 1826, and Inger Olea Paulsdatter, born in 1811. They
were married on October 29, 1835, in Botne church. They lived in
Holmestrand.

Jacob's parents were Ole Jacobsen and Tale Halvorsdatter, married April
20th, 1805.

Inger's father was Paul Kristoffersen, a former corporal in the military,
who was running the Svinevoll farm in Vale. Inger is the first child of his
second marriage.

This is what I have been able to piece together. Thank you for any help you
