Ken, here is a response to your recent request:

The Beginning of the West, Annals of the Kansas Gateway to the American West
1540-1854, by Louise Barry, published by the Kansas State Historical
Society, Topeka, Kansas, 1972.

This is an superb, indexed book that is a compilation of newspaper reports
of the migration as it left from Missouri.

-----------------
I am starting to construct a list of books and databases that:
1. INDEX many published and unpublished sources of information pertaining
to diaries and journals written by pioneers to California before, during and
after the gold rush.

2. contain specific information about large numbers of pioneers, their
method of travel and arrival dates in California.

I need the information as soon as possible for an article I will write for
next months SMCGS Newsletter.
