I am trying to ascertain the maiden name of my GGG Grandmother. Here's what
I *think* I know.
My GGG Grandfather, George Washington CHRISTIAN born in NY State 1828.
In 1852 he was in El Dorado county as a miner
Probably married to Katherine (Catherine) ?, born in New South Wales in 1836.
First child, Margaret, is born 1855 in California
Second child, William, is born 1857 in California, (family oral tradition
is that he was born in San Pablo Bay area)
By 1860, George and Katherine are in the census in Contra Costa County.
I have not been able to locate their marriage in the Contra Costa County
records.
My question is, where should I look? does anyone know, off hand, if marrige
records exist for El Dorado County c. 1852-57; how about Sacramento county
(same period). For that matter, for any of the counties in between (I
figure he may have not migrated directly from El Dorado to Contra Costa).
They had a seven children who survived into adulthood and I'm making my way
through finding their deaths in the hope that death certificates might tell
the mother's maiden name...so far no luck.
Suggestions welcome.
