Now that we have most of the NORCAL members back on board, I would like to
let everyone know that I have replaced a naturalization article on the
NORCAL Genealogy Index with an updated version.

Several weeks ago, I put an article titled NATURALIZATION DOCUMENTS AT THE
NATIONAL ARCHIVES-PACIFIC REGION (San Bruno) on the Index web page. It was
a temporary article that was to be replaced by one that I co-wrote with Dan
Nealand, an employee of the National Archives, San Bruno. Dan did a
fantastic job and included a lot of pertinent information about documents
and indexes at other courts in and out of California in addition to those
from the U. S. Courts in San Francisco. I realize that we should generally
avoid including in the NORCAL Index any information that does not pertain to
California, but because early Californians frequently moved to or from
nearby places like Nevada and their naturalization papers might be found in
these other locations, I left this information that Dan suppllied in the
article. This information will also be of help to people who do not realize
that many records from various courts in Nevada, Hawaii and other locations
are now located at San Bruno. Another interesting fact is that the
naturalization records from the Marin County Superior Court, 1852-1957 are
also located at the Archives. This is extremely unusual as this is a State
court and those records do not normally end up at a Federal facility like
the National Archives. These records "should" include ALL naturiaizations
done in Marin County during the period cited.

Also included in a section on "RESEARCH BY MAIL". If you can't get to the
Archives to look up the records yourself, you may still be able to obtain
copies by using this information.

Good Luck,
Ken T.
