The Brown Bros. & co. were a long-standing clothing company that sold
quality custom & off-the-rack suits for men ala the Brooks Bros. Clothing
Co. of the 1960's. Nothing European or fancy, but durible "working" suits.

If you look in any of the S.F. Directories from 1890-1900 (the only ones
I checked before) you will see them in the business section. If you look
up Brown in the residential section, you will likely find a couple or so who
will say "Proprietor, Brown Bros. & Co." My great-grandfather's says
"Bookkeeper Brown Bros. & Co.".

That's the best way to find who owns the company. If you want to find
your people, look up the names of the men below in the directory or check
the 1880 or 1900 S.F. Census Index. Compare the census to the directory
to get all the info.

If I can lay my hands on an S.F. Directory at the San Jose or Santa Clara
Library, I'll take a look.

It's all at the Sutro Library. I wish I was too!
