Try catalog CD-ROM at "local" FHC using locality search
for San Francisco, San Francisco, CA and look for voter
or registers. I seem to remember that they run from 1867
or so to 1898 in FHC but may actually run to 1904 in
reality.
Since there are so many people for SF, you need to get
the index microfilm first and look up the names you are
interested in. The information you need is the district in
which they were living for each issue. Then check out
the real register film(s) for the districts and years you are interested in.
Then you can check out your names in the
appropriate districts and not have to look at everyone who registered to
vote in SF for each available year.
The registers are listed by district and then alphabetically
by the first letter of the surname. If you have more than
one surname residing in SF, check ALL the districts for
just all your surnames. I was checking for my KUTTNER
family and did this for my LEVEY family and managed to identify my
great-uncles brothers. (They all had the same middle name)
