Hi Chris,
I checked the Oakland Tribune for Adolph WINDELER, DOD 22 Jan 1941, and
Carrie WINDELER, DOD 9 May 1941, and found obits for both of them. Seeing
that they both died in Livermore, I was curious and pulled out the Livermore
cemetery books and found both of them listed in the St. Michael's Cemetery in
Row 14W in the same plot as with the M.C. Mulqueeney family. Did you know
they were related to the Mulqueeneys? Big name in Livermore! The Mulqueeneys
owned a sheep ranch at the now extinct town of Midway, in the hills about 7
miles east of Livermore, and I believe descendents are still living on the
ranch, probably running a cattle ranch. I'll bet there are more complete
obituaries of these people in the Livermore newspapers (Tri-Valley Herald).
It would be worth a trip for you to go to the Livermore Library and check
this newspaper on microfilm to learn more about these families. The Herald is
indexed so it would be easy to find the obits there. You might find lots of
other news about the WINDELERS in that paper. I remember seeing literally
tons of information on the Mulqueeneys in the Livermore newspapers. Oh, and I
also checked the Tribune for James WINDELER, DOD 26 Feb. 1941, but had no
luck; I checked from the DOD to the end of the month. Interesting also that
he was not buried in Livermore. Good luck.
