Hi Carol and other Colonial enthusiasts:
Well, I can provide an answer for Carol's 'wish'...a company called 'The
Gold Bug' has a web page where you can go and sample how their software
works: the address is http://www.goldbug.com - they have lots of other
map-related info too.
I sent for their info brochure - which came via snail mail - and it says:
"Just about every researcher deals with the problem of finding an old town
that has long since disappared from the map. Or, you have a known location
but it was not in the same county 100 or 200 years ago. AniMap Plus [the
software I refer to above] now has solutions to these problems.
"This upgraded version of our program that will display over 2,000 maps in
color to show the changing county boundaries for each of the 48 adjacent
United States for every year since colonial times. Includes all years, _NOT
JUST THE CENSUS YEARS_...."
There is more info, but I urge y'all to go take a look at the web site for
more info, and the demo is terrific!
For anyone that doesn't want to invest in the software, their mailing
includes a list of the Hist. Map Reproductions they offer for only 75 cents
each - size is 8.5 x 11. There is a long list of ones they offer but in the
area of Carol's 'want' there is: Atlantic Colonies 1650, Northeast US 1660,
Cape Cod Harbor 1650, Plymouth Harbor 1650, Bunker HIll 1775, Charlestown
Pen. 1775, Concord 1775, and Lexington 1775....plus a map set of 7 maps of
New England 1614-1747 for $5.50.
In addition there are many, many other maps of other things and
locales...railroad maps, CW battle maps, postal directories, etc.
I think this company will be able to provide what you want, Carol...hope
so...
Now for some additional map info - but this is not colonial America info,
so for anyone who is strictly interested in the colonial period, you might
as well stop reading now!
OH, ONE MORE THING...A DISCLAIMER...
I have no financial interest in Gold Bug, just an interested
info-seeker...I haven't sent for any of their maps...haven't had the funds
yet for this particular project...so I cannot give you an endorsement...you
proceed at your own risk!

A while back I posted some info on the TN Roots list about wanting to find
if anyone was reproducing the wonderful Beers Co. maps that - in TN - were
published in 1878.
This Philadelphia based company went all the country and made maps and
listed the name of people that owned the land - I think they covered many
rural areas. I had found such a map of my ancestors in Lavergne
Village/Rutherford Co TN. BUT the map is in the state archives and is in
very bad condition, and photocopies are very hard to read.
Below I'm pasting in info someone sent me and so far it is the only company
doing this reproduction work that has been reported to me...but regretfully
they are so far only doing New England...I intend to keep a weather eye out
to see if they post about doing other states. Their FAQs say: 'don't write
us about other states, we'll post as we do others.' I'm guessing they got
deluged with people wanting other states...I know when I posted ASKING for
more Beers Co. maps info, I got deluged with people wanting me to GIVE them
more info...and next to no one had info to give me. So let me tell all of
you: IF I GET ANY GOOD INFO I'LL POST TO THIS LIST!!!
Please don't write me individually asking me to share info...I'm a great
believer in sharing, but I just don't have the time to write individuals
back and tell them I don't have info and will post when I do. I'm on many
lists for other interests, and just can't respond to the volume of mail
that postings about maps causes.
I don't understand why some company doesn't get on the ball and make these
maps available for people to buy...it has been my experience that there are
great numbers of people dying to find map sources!!! Here's the Beers Co.
info:

I just did a search on Excite for "maps + beers" and came up with the
following map maker which looks great. Hint: don't reverse your search to
"beers + maps"..all you get is beer. :-)
http://spider.biddeford.com/~lkane/home.html#toc
It appears they have some of the Beers maps, plus many others, including on
disc where you can edit them in scanning and editing programs. They're
currently working on their map index (looks like the site might be new),
but
you can probably write to them (email) for a list. Cheap, too! The only
maps they currently show are NH, RI, MA and ME, but since they're working
on
their index, I couldn't tell if they also had others.
Then, there's Cyndi's list of maps, etc. at:
http://www.oz.net/~cyndihow/maps.htm

Subject: MA Map
Hello Everyone!
I would like to obtain a map of Massachusettes (sp) abt 1650. Does
anyone know where I might obtain one?
If you could point me in the right direction, it would be very much
appreciated!
Thanks a bunch.
