Christy,

Thanks for the response. To answer your question, both copies of the
marriage certificate for Harvey Elmer Slentz and Effie Margaret Wells
are hand written. What is so strange is that on the copy for 1902, it
show their ages as 18 and 16 which would have been correct. But it looks
like someone tried to tamper with the date showing it as 1907???? Then I
have a separate marriage license showing their ages as 25 and 23 for
1907. On the 1902 license, it was certified and filed by Hon. David
Wallace, and is recorded in Book 6 of Marriage Licenses & Certificates
on page 52 in the records of Monterey County.

On the 1907 license, it has a type written note attached to it from the
Office of Recorder of Monterey County, listing this was a true and
correct copy of the original on record as it appears in Vol. 6 of
Marriage License & Certificates at page 52.

I sure wish I could find someone in Monterey County to look this up and
solve this mystery for me! I sure wished you lived closer too, but
thanks the response. You just confirmed what I suspected.

Nora

Nora,
in reading your just-sent letter, I am sure that the original marriage
certificate was hand-written. Are the copies (certified) hand written,
or typed?
With this kind of conflicting info, you are absolutely justified in
wanting someone to actually go into the Vital Records office in Monterey
County, and looking in their hard-copy indexes!! Since the indexes are
done by year within the alphabetizing system.... wish I lived
closer-I'd do it for you!!! The county indexes will cover from whenever
the county started keeping records.... good luck!! Christy
