Jim,
Unfortunately, many libraries don't list microfiche items in their catalogs.
I know that San Mateo County does not and they have at least two copies of
the California Information File in their system. Most libraries keep all
the microfiche items together in a drawer someplace in the library and, as
you say, it is usually a drawer in the reference desk. So, I usually just
ask them to give me everything in the drawer and I go through the whole mess
until I find what I want. Sometimes I have discovered other microfiche
items in the lot that I did not know about. Perhaps we should all suggest
to our local libraries that they put these items in their catalogs.
