Hi Laurel and Joan,

The Hayward Area Historical Society Museum Archives, 22701 Main St., Hayward,
94541, has Hayward city directories for the years 1925, 1938, 1946, 1948, and
1953-1976. They're normally open on Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday 11 a.m. to
4 p.m., but the building is presently undergoing renovation, so they might be
temporarily closed now. They are temporarily located at 22538 Main St. Give
them a call at 510-581-0223.

Both Santa Clara and Alameda counties have marriage records going back to the
1850s, so please don't be discouraged in checking. I think that you are on
the right track in using the city directories to help solve this mystery. The
CADI should list Luis if he died in California. Good luck.

Dan Mosier

Don't forget to check the California Genealogy Index at
