While I was doing some research the other day, I found that John Hitchcock
(husband of Rosina Hitchcock) was buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Santa
Rosa, CA. There were two things in the inscription which I thought might
interest you both:
"John Weber Hitchcock, Mar 2, 1830 - Nov 26, 1917. U.S. Mounted Riflemen,
Mexican War"
First, his middle name was apparently "Weber". According to records in
Stockton, J. Hitchcock purchased land in San Joaquin County (8 Jan 1852)
from Charles M. Weber (founder of Stockton) for $36, described in book A,
vol 5, of Deeds, pg 619. This land today is near the site of the Stockton
Central Library. Is there some connection between the Hitchcocks and the
Webers?
Second is the reference to the Mexican War. Do either of you have any
record of this service?
