The odds of having a California civil war veteran as a family member are
rather slight since most of the troops and battles occurred in the east.
However, I ran across a letter from the commanding general at the Presideo,
Union Army, describing Los Angeles as a "hot bed of successionist activty"
I think the Union officer had been stationed at Fort Dalles prior to the war.
