Is there someone in this group that has easy acces to the CA 1880 census
who could do a lookup for me? Hopefully there is an index available. The
two libraries to which I have access (I live in a small community near
Conroe, Texas), do not have the census nor an index -- either printed or on
microfilm.
I are seeking information about Thomas Blackwell Shapter and his wife,
Catherine (Katherine) and their baby daughter, Theodora who was born in San
Francisco in 1881. Thomas and Catherine immigrated to CA from New Zealand
after May 1874. Catharine and Theodora returned to New Zealand without
Thomas about February 1882, where Catharine died after two months on 17
April 1882. They were in San Francisco (or CA) about six years. So what
happened to Thomas? Did he die in San Francisco before Catherine and
Theodora left, or did he stay there without the family?
Aside from the 1880 census, would there be any ships passenger lists
available that should have the family listed both entering and exiting the
US? Is there a birth certificate available for Theodora? Are there any
death indices available that can be searched for Thomas?
I would truly appreciate any guidance and help with this mystery.
Thanks,
Sandy Coulter
