Hi Don,
I am not LDS, but did work in the Ventura Stake Ward Family History
Library for a long time, before moving to Tehachapi. It gave me lots of
time and unlimited material for my personal research. My wife's father was
very old when he married my wife's mother, but never-the-less fathered
four children by her. My wife had a half sister, by her father's first
marriage,
born the same year as her mother. Over the years my wife lost track of her.
One night, while researching my wife's father's name, (in some of my much
free time as a Liberian) I found two LDS submittal sheets, with reference to
him, his first wife and the three children from his first marriage. The
sheets
had been signed and submitted by the same person, but included different
addresses and phone numbers. At the bottom of the sheet, where you state
the source of the information being submitted, it said; "Information from
personal conversations with my grandmother, Ara Penny BECK." Now if this
was a fact, his grandmother was my wife's half sister! The next day I called
both numbers and both had been disconnected, with no referrals. With both
numbers being in Utah, and the information being submitted to the LDS, I
went on the assumption this person was more-than-likely an LDS member.
Both submittal sheet were submitted to the same LDS Ward, so I gave the
ward a call! (Pacbell loves me!) Getting the ward on the phone, I told them
what I wanted. I was quickly denied any information on LDS members. I was
told, very politely they would mail me a form and if the party I was trying
to
reach was an LDS member, any place in the world, it would be mailed to him.
It would solely be up to that person to contact me, if he so desired. Three
days
later, I received the form. At the top, was a place for my name and address
and the rest of the sheet was blank, for a letter to be written. I wrote him
a
letter and stated, if the information he had submitted was in fact true, his
grandmother was my wife's half sister! Twenty days to the day we received
a ten page letter letter from his wife! Needless to say, both family trees
grew
quite rapidly. The might be an answer to your search. If not, nothing
ventured,
nothing gained!
