Recently, there has been a very strange noise in NORCAL land.
Not too worry, it's not an upcoming earthquake or tidal wave, just
I've been thinking as a result of the recent posting of the SS#
assignment list.
In the SSDI, there may or may not be information on where the
person was receiving benefits, but there is almost always the
state in which the decedent was living when the SS# was issued
and in some cases the date.
My thought is that possibly (and only possibly) the location is
generated by computer from the first three digits of the SS#.
Additionally if ALL the numbers for the first three digits were
used prior to a certain date then a # with those 3 digits would
show "issued in [state name] prior to [year].
It might be interesting to see if sufficient information could be
obtained so that one could modify the 3 digit number code list
to show when the latest date that such a number could be listed.
My dad's # is 552 and it says that it was issued in CA before 1951.
>From that I would assume that ALL #552 numbers were issued in
CA prior to 1951.
Interesting point, but is it worth the effort.
