I'm going to guess, but I'd think that the copy of the birth
certificate supplied SSA probably contains same information,
for a new baby, as the SSA-5 and they probably just enter info
into computer without having a paper SSA-5.
I've noticed that the older SSA-5's that I have seem to have the
first five digits of the SS# rubber stamped on the application and
the last four digits written in manually. This would tend to indicate
that the numbers were assigned in blocks of 10,000 (9,999) to a
particular office so that just the four last digits had to be entered
manually. By the way, I finally figured out that there is 1,000,000
numbers for each three digit code. (xxx-99,9999).
One wants to always keep looking for items that MAY help.
